Position Profile

We are currently looking for a Senior Tax Manager, Due Diligence & Compliance, to join our team in Montreal.

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Due diligence:

  • Reviewing corporate documentation such as tax returns, financial statements, minute books, payroll and sales tax;
  • Analyzing, reporting and leading various M&A tax engagements for clients;
  • Playing a key role in special tax projects such as tax due diligences related to the acquisitions by private equity investor groups and strategic corporate buyers in a variety of industries;
  • Assisting the buyer or seller with tax diligences and domestic and international structuring;
  • Researching and tackling complex tax issues at a detailed level;
  • Documenting tax findings in a timely and accurate manner; and
  • Analyzing and identifying client needs as well as communicating any potential risks and rewards involving M&A.

 

Compliance:

  • Reviewing Canadian corporate, personal, partnership and trust tax returns;
  • Ensuring all tax filings and tax data are reviewed thoroughly and consistently;
  • Working closely with partners and managers on different files, specifically those that have complex tax structures;
  • Identifying tax compliance issues and developing solutions to suit the needs of our clients;
  • Recognizing planning opportunities and suggesting recommendations to minimize tax exposure;
  • Overseeing and being responsible for the work of staff members;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients; and
  • Providing advice and training to other staff members.

What you need to succeed:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in Canadian tax at a public accounting firm, specializing in tax compliance and due diligences
  • Enrolled or having completed the Master of Taxation program or CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Courses
  • Solid experience interpreting and applying tax legislations
  • Proficient with tax research methods and databases
  • Ability to identify new business opportunities, build strong client relations and focus on employee engagement
  • Work flexible hours and work within required budgets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Experience with CaseWare and Taxprep is an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Inquisitiveness and creativity
  • Emphasis on teamwork and collaboration
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
